DME, A DIVISION OF DAVIDS PRODUCTIONS, INC., LAUNCHES TWO
NEW EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES FOR HEALTH SYSTEM PHARMACISTS
DME, a division of Davids Productions in Montville, NJ, has launched the premier issue of Current Concepts in
Pharmacy Management newsletter and a new educational web-based resource, www.ccpharm.com. Both the newsletter
and Web site are offshoots of Current Concepts in Pharmacy Management, a video series which DME has published
for the past six years through a grant from Ortho Biotech Products, LP.
Current Concepts in Pharmacy Management Newsletter
Each issue of this new accredited newsletter, targeted to health system pharmacists, provides valuable, in-depth
information on a current topic of interest. Feature stories are written by pharmacy thought leaders and industry
experts. Issue 1, the first newsletter to be published, was released in early October 2005. The University of
Arizona College of Pharmacy is the accredited provider.
Health system pharmacists will find this newsletter to be a significant resource for issues and needs that they
encounter in their pharmacies. For example, Issue 1, entitled "Supply Chain Management in Health Systems: A New
Imperative for Pharmacists," presents recognized industry experts who discuss Tips for Detecting Counterfeit Medications,
The Increasing Occurrence of Drug Shortages and The Impact of Wholesaler Source Contracting Programs on the
Pharmaceutical Marketplace.
Issue 2, scheduled for publication in November, will focus on the impact of Ambulatory Injectable Drugs on Health Systems.
William Gouveia, RPh, Director of Pharmacy at Tufts-New England Medical Center in Boston, is the executive editor
of this new publication.
"We designed this newsletter to be relevant and timely for current 'hot topics' in health system pharmacy," said
David Comora, newsletter publisher and managing partner in DME. "Our Editorial Board is comprised of thought
leaders who are very aware of the most important issues facing health system pharmacists today. Each newsletter
contains articles authored by experts and well-known authorities."
"Pharmacists may recognize the Current Concepts in Pharmacy Management title from the related video-based program,"
explained David. "Our company, in conjunction with the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy and the University
of Kentucky College of Pharmacy, has been creating and producing the video program, through an educational grant
from Ortho Biotech, for the past five years."
Three issues of the Current Concepts in Pharmacy Management newsletter will be published annually. There is no
charge or fee for the newsletter or to receive continuing education credit. Current Concepts in Pharmacy Management
programs (newsletters, videos and posttests) can be accessed and viewed at the newly launched www.ccpharm.com Web site.
Newsletter Highlights
Issue 1 includes the following articles:
- A Reliable Pharmaceutical Supply Chain
- Tips for Pharmacists in Detecting Counterfeit Medications
- The Increasing Occurrence of Drug Shortages: Facts and Strategies for the Hospital Pharmacy
- The Impact of Wholesaler Source Contracting Programs on the Pharmaceutical Marketplace
- Editor's Commentary
- Rx Forum: A Closer Look at the Supply Chain and Wholesalers/Distributors
Current Concepts in Pharmacy Management Official Web Site - www.ccpharm.com
The online resource for the Current Concepts program, www.ccpharm.com, was created in order to have a central portfolio
for the videos, posttests and newsletters. Pharmacists now have instant access for themselves and their staffs to all
of the Current Concepts educational materials, which are all designated for CPE. For example, they can:
- Read or download the first issue of the new newsletter "Supply Chain Management in Health Systems: A New Imperative for Pharmacists"
- View highlights from the latest video release (Volume 16) "Protecting the Integrity of the Pharmaceutical Supply Chain"
- Watch highlights from the other currently accredited video programs (Volumes 13-15) that focus on, respectively, USP 797 Regulations for Sterile and Chemotherapy Compounding, Emerging Technologies for Improved Patient Safety and JCAHO Requirements for Patient Safety
- Access complete videos to earlier programs (Volumes 1-12) that still contain relevant and useful information despite having expired accreditation
- Download extra copies of newsletter and video posttests
- View highlights from past ASHP meetings
- Return to the Web site on a regular basis to view and access new videos, posttests and newsletters as they are released
"The Current Concepts video series has been in existence for 5 years and now that the newsletter has been created, a
Web site was the next logical step in the progression of the Current Concepts program," said David Kalb, co-publisher.
"Our Editorial Board was very enthusiastic about having the entire Current Concepts portfolio available on the Internet
so that pharmacists could have unlimited access to the programs and resources that we have developed."
Current Concepts in Pharmacy Management is supported by an educational grant from Ortho Biotech Products, LP.
