Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS): The Pharmacist's Expanding Role
Please log in to view this video online.

Traditionally, hospital pharmacists have not played a large role in the Advanced Cardiac Life Support team. However, this is changing around the country, as pharmacists take up a variety of ACLS duties, including team leadership.

This video examines the current position of hospital pharmacists in ACLS, their growing responsibilities, and the opportunities for and barriers to the expansion of that role in the future.

The program also examines the most recently published American Heart Association ACLS guidelines, highlighting new and devloping drug therapies in considerable detail.

The program features interviews with 5 thought leaders in ACLS:

Vinay Nadkarni, MD, Chairman of the Emergency Cardiovascular Care Committee, American Heart Association; Pritesh Gandhi, PharmD, BCPS, Assistant Professor of Clincial Pharmacy, Massachusetts College of Pharmacy; James E. Tisdale, PharmD, BCPS, Department of Pharmacy Services, Henry Ford Hospital; Kerry Pickworth, PharmD, Specialty Practice Pharmacist, Cardiology, Ohio State University Medical Center; Cynthia Sanoski, PharmD, Assistant Professor of Clinical Pharmacy, University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.
